A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Growing up Senegalese in Detroit, I grew up between two worlds of beauty.

At home, African beauty was simply part of life. Shea butter, oils, plants, powders, and DIY body rituals were passed down through the women in my family. Outside of home, I watched people who looked like me search for better solutions for dark marks, uneven tone, ingrown hairs, texture, and other everyday skin concerns.

I remember thinking, we already have so much of the answer.

But I also realized that many of the remedies we grew up with were never designed to become modern skincare products. DIY traditions can be powerful, but they can also be inconsistent or difficult to use safely. I wanted to take inspiration from that knowledge and give it what it deserved: professional formulation, proper testing, modern cosmetic science, and innovation.

Beyond the formulas, I wanted to reimagine what African beauty could look like to the world.

Not just raw shea butter, black soap, or a few familiar ingredients, but a world of innovative skincare, beautiful formulas, fashion, culture, design, storytelling, and experiences that feel exciting to a new generation.

That vision became SOXNA.

SOXNA was born from a personal need. We were part of the many people of color who have felt unseen by the beauty industry, so we wanted to build something where melanin-rich skin was considered from the very beginning. From the ingredients we choose to the way our formulas are developed and tested, being melanin-conscious is part of our foundation, not an afterthought.

But SOXNA was never created to exclude anyone. In Senegal, we have a word, Teranga, a spirit of hospitality, generosity, and welcoming others in. That same feeling lives here.

Whatever your shade, gender, or background, you are welcome to experience SOXNA. We created it from our culture and our experiences, but we built it to be shared.

SOXNA is where what we inherited meets what comes next: African heritage, science-backed performance, innovation, modern beauty, and community.

For me, this is bigger than skincare. It’s about honoring where we come from while reimagining what African beauty can look like to the world.

There is so much more to African beauty, and I can’t wait to show you.
With love,
